Meaningful opportunities for trainee sport & Exercise Psychologists.
Current Opportunities
Job Description: Trainee Sport & Exercise Psychologist (Associate Contractor)
CalmFocusPerform LLP
Part Time Contract (anticipated 8 - 12 hours per week) Remote
Fully funded operational infrastructure & competitive service-delivery based pay (£29.25 - £84.15 per hour).
CalmFocusPerform LLP (CFP) is a private applied psychology practice committed to making sport, exercise, and performance psychology services accessible to all. To achieve this, we operate through a trainee model, where all service delivery is conducted by trainee sport and exercise psychologists enrolled on either the BPS Stage 2, CASES accreditation, or professional doctorate pathway. Our primary focus is the development of ethical, scientific, and client-centred provision for under-accessed populations who may currently find these services inaccessible. Alongside service accessibility, we are also committed to creating meaningful, ethical, and well-supported trainee opportunities, informed by our own experiences progressing through professional training pathways.
Launched in 2024 by two professional doctorate trainees, we have since secured grant funding and had the privilege of supporting hundreds of athletes across a range of contexts. As we enter a key growth phase, we are looking to recruit a trainee psychologist to become directly integrated within our mission — independently delivering services while also contributing to the continued expansion and development of our client base.
The role of Trainee Psychologist is to directly deliver a range of psychological services in alignment with ethical standards, company policies, and supervision requirements. These services include one-to-one psychological support, process groups and workshop facilitation, psychological training courses, and organisational consultancy.
The trainee will receive access to service opportunities generated through existing referral pathways, partnerships, and organisational channels, although the volume and regularity of this work may vary as part of the our current growth phase. Alongside service delivery, the trainee will also be expected to contribute to the continued development of new opportunities, partnerships, and areas of growth, with additional compensation provided for work secured or developed.
Service Delivery
Plan and deliver a range of psychological services in line with individual competency and ethical guidelines.
Maintain accurate records of psychological work and provide appropriate feedback and documentation when required.
Liaise with clients, organisations, and other stakeholders in a professional, ethical and empathetic manner.
Professional Practice
Maintain the requirements of professional supervision and progression toward qualification completion throughout the role.
Work within HCPC/BPS/BASES ethical standards, including confidentiality, consent, and data protection.
Participate in regular training activities and CPD, both provided by CFP and independently pursued.
Communicate professional issues, concerns, and limitations in an appropriate and timely manner.
Administrative Tasks
Maintain accurate and accessible digital calendars capable of integration with organisational booking systems.
Manage individual payment submissions and expense requests in a timely manner.
Contribute to client contracting, onboarding, and associated documentation when acting as the primary contact.
Development Contribution
Actively contribute to the development of client opportunities, partnerships, and areas of growth through networking, relationship building, and promotion.
Contribute to innovative initiatives, service development, and internal projects.
Team Integration
Collaborate with other team members through regular meetings, group supervision, and shared service ideas.
Contribute to reporting procedures and the ongoing development of continuous improvement processes.
Support, represent, and advocate for CFP values and organisational culture.
This role is offered on an independent contractor basis, meaning the trainee will be responsible for their own tax and National Insurance contributions, with appropriate guidance and support provided by CFP. Although engaged as a contractor, the trainee will be integrated within the organisation and expected to work collaboratively with team members while engaging with agreed systems, policies, and standard operating procedures.
Working hours will remain flexible, with a minimum commitment of approximately 8–12 hours per week depending on service demand and ongoing projects. The agreement will be offered on an open-ended basis, contingent upon the individual maintaining active trainee psychologist status within an appropriate professional training pathway.
Service-delivery remuneration will follow the standard CFP payment structure, whereby the service provider receives the full chargeable service fee minus an agreed organisational retention contribution. Under the current structure, contractors retain 65% of fees for work provided through existing CFP referral pathways and organisational channels, and 85% of fees for work independently secured or developed by the contractor.
Paid and supported psychological work as part of an established private practice.
Valuable insight into the operation and development of private practice through direct organisational integration.
Contribution toward the applied experience required for BPS/CASES/professional doctorate training pathways.
Initial internal training and funded CPD, including therapeutic approaches, practical skills, and applied ethical practice.
Access to the systems, infrastructure, and operational resources of an established private practice, including digital platforms, booking and referral systems, and promotional strategies.
Access to a shared resource library and standardised documentation, including extensive client resources, pre-designed workshops, and client contracting materials.
Funded professional indemnity insurance, digital work suites, and broader developmental support.
Direct collaboration with business partners, including shared knowledge, experience, and professional networks developed through two leading professional doctorate pathways.
Ongoing case support through regular peer supervision, practice sessions, and manager guidance.
Opportunities to contribute toward academic activities, service development projects, and co-publications.
